Vice-President Fayolle's areas of oversight include financing of environment, climate action and the circular economy, EIB Global (development policy together with Vice-President Östros; pre-accession policy is with Vice-President Kakouris), financing operations in France, Germany, the ACP countries (Africa and the Pacific – except the Caribbean States and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), jointly with Vice-President Östros), OCTs and South Africa. Vice-President Fayolle also oversees relations with international financial institutions, coordination with multilateral development banks (MDBs), and relations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB) and the European Central Bank (ECB).
France: EIB signs €400 million finance contract for rail transport in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a €400 million loan agreement with the local public company SPIIT (Société Publique Interrégionale des Investissements en faveur des Transports), which is owned by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie regions, to acquire new rolling stock and modernise the existing rolling stock. SPIIT is designed to provide both regions with a technical and organisational tool to manage their rolling stock (maintenance, acquisition, etc.) for regional passenger transport services. The estimated total cost for these investments is around €1.2 billion. It will be financed by a combination of equity and senior loans from the EIB, Caisse des Dépôts and a group of commercial banks.
