The European Investment Bank – the EU bank – confirms financial support of €123 million (around TND 416 million) for the construction of a new bridge in Bizerte in northern Tunisia, in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), which is providing €122 million in financing, and the Tunisian government. Since its launch in 2016, this project has benefited from EU support via a grant of around €3 million (more than TND 10 million) for feasibility studies and the design phase of the project.
The development arm of the European Investment Bank (EIB) — EIB Global — has held a press conference to confirm its ongoing commitment to Tunisia. €92 million of new financing was granted in 2023, and there was an almost 50% increase in disbursements to projects promoting sustainable, resilient and inclusive economic growth to benefit all Tunisians. The EU bank is also providing technical expertise and sector support — including via EU support funds — in the water and wastewater, transport and electrical grid sectors.
On Monday 10 July, the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a new financing agreement in Tunisian dinars (amounting to the equivalent of €12 million) to strengthen its support for Tunisian micro-entrepreneurs. This new operation supported by EIB Global, the EIB’s branch for international partnerships and development finance, falls under the Microfinance Facility for the Southern Neighbourhood implemented in cooperation with the European Union.
