The EIB has been active in Finland since 1994, and nowadays boasts a very active local EIB-branch. With EIB financing, roads and railways were improved, including the train line between Turku, Helsinki and the Russian border. We invested in education, health, sustainable transport and many small businesses. In recent years, hospital districts from Helsinki to Lapland received EIB loans, and we supported a 15-kilometre tramline in Tampere. Innovative technology is also a priority, as shown by our support for the wave energy company AW-Energy and meta-verse innovators Varjo.
