As the EU Bank, one of our goals is to help build an inclusive Europe. Through our work, we aim to reduce economic, social and territorial inequalities across the EU and contribute to improving the life of European citizens. For this reason, regional development and cohesion policy underpin our mission.
EIB-supported cohesion projects seek to address inequalities to support a balanced territorial development that will leave no one behind.
The EIB’s annual target for cohesion lending is 30% of all new operations in the EU, Pre-Accession and EFTA countries. In 2018, the EIB’s lending in cohesion priority regions supported more than 230 new operations for a total lending volume of € 14.25 billion.
To implement projects that benefit communities, we often co-finance projects with EU structural funds and can help set up financial instruments to attract other investors, and maximise the impact of the financing.
