Economic conferences and research networks
We organise events to bring together experts and stakeholders. Our aim is to share insights and debate the policy responses that are needed to address the economic challenges facing Europe and the globe.
EIB Annual Economics Conference – The flagship economics conference of the EIB serves to catalyse high-level dialogue on investment and investment finance in Europe.
National investment conferences – We organise conferences across Europe to discuss national investment trends, gaps and policy issues, with debates framed through the lens of the latest EIBIS results.
EIB Chief Economists Advisory Group – A network of chief economists from leading international banks and institutions, who meet twice a year to hold a high-level and closed-door dialogue on key economic developments and forthcoming challenges.
Vienna Initiative – The EIB works with other stakeholders as part of this initiative to help safeguard the stability of the financial sector in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.
European Network for Research on Investment – This is a platform for sharing and discussing research on investment in Europe, with regular conferences hosted by the EIB.
Annual Economics Conference 2021
The EIB’s annual economics conference, organised in cooperation with the OECD, Columbia University and SUERF, brought together almost 400 economists and policy makers of governments, national and international institutions, prominent academics and leading financial and corporate executives.
Under the overarching theme of “Europe: smart and green”, the conference included vivid discussions and keynote speeches on topics ranging from the ways the pandemic will change the world to shifting perspectives on risk, the need for transparent public interventions and the role of financial markets and banks in the twin transition digital and carbon-neutral future. We also presented the EIB Investment Report 2020-2021, focusing this year on a smart and green recovery of Europe in the COVID-19 era.
The panel included EIB President Werner Hoyer, President of the European Council Charles Michel, EIB Chief Economist Debora Revoltella, and top economists Jeffrey Sachs and Nobel Laureate Joseph E. Stiglitz, among others.
