Cutting greenhouse gases and financing innovative green transport solutions around the world, is a key mission for the European Investment Bank – as the EU Climate Bank. In the Italian city of Venice, the EIB has been working with the municipal authorities and AVM Holding the public operator of the city’s public transport network to replace the iconic water buses known as the “vaporetti” with clean hybrid-electric versions. The newly adapted vessels, travelling between Venice, Murano, Burano and Lido, will help to lower greenhouse gas emissions, offering a far less polluting public transport choice for both residents and visitors to the city and its nearby islands.
